Wordstar's influence isn't limited to word processing
.
Wordstar, like Visicalc, gave people reasons to own computers and drove the "paperless office"...which actually ended up using MORE paper because reprinting is far easier than retyping an entire document.
Wordstar used "markup" codes to change the appearance and output of text - centering, bold, line breaks, etc. Wordstar was not the first (the idea had been around since 1970), it was the first that was widely used.
Wordstar's popularity and use of markup was very likely an influence on the creation of other markup languages, most notably HTML, without which the internet would be limited to Usenet, Telnet and Gopher.
